Martinet, François-Nicolas
(1731 - 1800 Paris). Französischer Zeichner und Kupferstecher in Paris. Erste Ausbildung zum Ingenieur und Zeichner. Dienten Kupferstich und Radierung zunächst als Nebenerwerb, so wandt er sich diesen nach anfänglichen Erfolgen vollends zu. Da er sich in der Darstellung von Vögeln besonders geschickt zeigte, arbeitete er für die wichtigsten Ornithologen seiner Zeit. So lieferte er 1760 die Tafeln zur 'Ornithologia' von Mathurin-Jacques Brisson. 1770-85 wurde die 'Histoire naturelle des oiseaux' von Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon mit seinen Kupfern ausgestattet. Schließlich erschien 1787-96 mit 'Histoire des oiseaux' ein eigenes ornithologisches Werk mit über 200 Tafeln.
