Engelmann, Gottfried
(1788 Mülhausen - 1839 ebenda). Deutsch-französischer Lithograph. Ausbildung in La Rochelle, Bordeaux und Paris. Vervollständigte seine Kenntnisse des Steindrucks 1813/14 in München bei Ferdinand Piloty, Nepomuk Strixner und Johann Baptist Stuntz. Richtete 1816 in Paris in der Rue Casette 18 eine Lithographische Anstalt ein. Druckte dort zunächst Wiedergaben von Gemälden unter anderem von Horace Vernet oder Evariste Fragonard. 1837 Patentierung seines neuen Verfahrens der Chromolithographie, das bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein für den hochauflösenden Mehrfarbendruck breite Verwendung fand.
